Mine has been quite the opposite. It was pretty sluggish when I first used it, but after a $20 memory upgrade it's very quick. In fact, it's just a quick when performing daily tasks the G50VT it replaces (Word, Excel, Web-surfing, HULU). The specs suggest that this thing has only 1 available memory slot that is already occupied by a 2G stick. However, it DOES have 2 slots, 1 of which is empty. The specs also say that 4G is the max memory supported. I slapped a 4G stick in the empty slot and 6G shows up in BIOS and Win7 (5.6G available). Made a world of difference. This thing is downright quick plus it will now run some games at respectable settings (COD4: 1024x768, no AA = 30+ FPS according to FRAPS). Plan to install Steam this weekend so I can install Half-Life 2. A gaming powerhouse, no way. But is it good enough to play a few older games while killing time at the airport, FOR SURE! The... Nor is it a replacement for a true laptop. People who are expecting it as such are going to be disappointed. However, with its dual core and 2G of RAM, and large HDD, it's an excellent netbook. It has a large keyboard for a netbook, which I have no trouble typing on. The Multitouch trackpad makes scrolling and defining a middle mouse click (for web browsing) a snap. This is not to say that there aren't any warts with the product. There are two things that jump to the forefront for me. 1) The trackpad button is miserable. It's a single rocker for both right and left, and it's so stiff that it's hard to click. This is ameliorated by the fact that the tap-click is so easy to use, and the settings help prevent the false click that plagues people who type on these things. 2) Boot time is slow. On the order of 2 minutes. This would be fine for a full laptop, but this is... Very slow, takes at least 5 mins to load, and the mouse is non functional. This is CRAP. Not even worth 100.00 bucks!!!!! |
